Presentation: Student Farmworker Alliance and the Coalition of Immokalee Workers

On December 9th, organizers for the Student Farmworker Alliance and the Coalition of Immokalee Workers will give a presentation on the working and pay conditions for Florida tomato pickers, the history of the CIW and how and why they began organizing, the Campaign for Fair Food (its logic, history and successes), and finally how students can get involved. They are looking to make connections with local students, community organizations, faith groups and others, and to spread awareness of human rights abuses within our food system.

The Friedman Sprout is a monthly student run newspaper that aims to serve the student population at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, prospective students, and alumni. Our mission is to report on newsworthy information that affects the Friedman community including nutrition research, food policy, internship and volunteer opportunities, as well as school events. Our editorial slant is that of sustainability in food and nutrition.
